Back to Business as Usual

It's back to business as usual for our turtle patrol members after a week of rain and wind from Tropical Storm Debby. Sadly, we did lose a few nests from this storm. But also, good news those hatchlings were anxious to get to the water and several nests "boiled" in between the bands of the storm. Thanks to visitors calling our stranding team and our fabulous assistant coordinators checking the nests, our teams were able to help many of these babies despite the storm.

We're getting equipment back out onto the beach and red shirts should be out in evenings watching nests. Look for them and stop-by and see what's happening with their nest.

We did pass another milestone this week. It's been more than two weeks since the last mother turtle was seen on our beach. So, the "nesting" season is over for this year. Momma turtles laid 63 nests on our beach this season and about half of them have hatched already.

Our last two Turtle Talks will be August 14 and 21 at 7 p.m. at the Holden Beach Chapel. This program is for all ages and free of charge. Join us.
