It's Turtle Season on Holden Beach!

posted: May 1, 2020, 11:44 AM

May 1st marks the beginning of turtle season here on our beach. The water is still a little cold for momma turtles here, but Georgia has reported three loggerhead turtle nests already.. We are usually ten days to two weeks behind them. But riders will be out every morning looking for tracks in the sand.

Look at the photo section of this website, there is a listing of the History of First Nests and you can see when the first momma turtles have come in the past. When do you think the first will be here this year?

Due to the current health concerns, when the morning rider does find a nest a small (er) group of volunteers will be called out to help find and if needed relocate a nest. We ask that if you see a team on the beach, please respect social distancing and try not to gather in large groups. We'll be glad to answer any questions that we can.
