We Dig Turtles

posted: September 9, 2019, 9:18 AM

Turtle Patrol members have been back in the beach! Saturday our coordinator rode the atv early morning and reported that several nests and equipment were completely GONE after hurricane Dorian passed our shore. He also reported that lots of sand had been deposited on most of the remaining nests. Yesterday (Sunday) was a day for more searching and digging. A "hurricane stake" from one of the "lost" nests was found...great news! Vacationers have reported finding eggs and hatchlings in the water. Overall the current nest count on the beach is 11. Officially we lost four nests. HBTP members are back on the beach digging nests out of the sand and "collaring" nests that will soon hatch.
