Nest #2

posted: May 29, 2018, 2:02 PM

Members of the Holden Beach Turtle Patrol located the second Loggerhead nest of the season this morning. The mother turtle crawled right up to the fencing on the dunes and deposited 135 eggs; because the nest was below the high tide line, the eggs were excavated and moved several feet back (towards the street) where the nest should remain dry. In 50 days, a team of patrol members will begin watching the nest on a nightly basis in anticipation of hatching!
