Almost Turtle Time at Holden Beach

posted: March 9, 2018, 7:37 AM

Sea Turtle season has started in Broward County Florida. The folks at Fort Lauderdale Beach announced their first nest of the season yesterday. It was a Leatherback turtle! Leatherbacks are usually the "early nesters" (March through July) on that beach. That's exciting for them. Loggerheads and Green turtles are more common.

Our season in Holden Beach doesn't usually start until mid to late May. Leatherback turtles are not common on our beach.

But our Turtle Patrol is getting ready. Our annual meeting will be April 7 @ 10 a.m. at the Holden Beach Town Hall. If you've been thinking about joining the Turtle Patrol or want information about volunteering, now is the time to contact our Turtle Patrol Coordinator, Pat Cusack at: hbtwp.pc@icloud.com
