Turtles, turtles everywhere

If you were on Holden Beach any evening during the past week, chances were good you came across baby turtles. Several nests hatched and we thank all of the residents and vacationers who notified the Turtle Patrol when they came across hatchlings on the beach. Following the main hatch, or boil as it's called, many of the nests had additional hatchlings emerge on the subsquent two nights. In addition, several nests were closed out including nest 14 which had 66 babies in the nest and nest 13 with 33 babies. All of these hatchlings were excavated and then released to the water.
Our nest count is 51 and it's been 12 days since the last nest was laid. Will there be anymore nests this year? Only the mother turtles know the answer!
