Nest 5 Closeout and Nest 6 Boiled same night!

What a great feeling when nest 5 was closed Thursday night - 23 baby turtles were found and released to the water. Some of the babies were wedged into the side of the nest so Turtle Patrol members carefully scraped away the sand in order to free them. These little ones might not have been able to emerge from the nest without the Patrol's help.

After the Turtle Patrol members left the beach on Thursday night, about 9:30 p.m. vacationers saw a depression appear in nest #6 (nothing there 1/2 hour before--but lots of blowing sand). They called the "emergency stranding team phone number" and got the team back out on the beach. At 10 p.m. the nest boiled! It can happen that fast!

Thank you to these quick thinking vacationers for calling!

With nests closing and boiling all over the beach it's hard to keep track of exactly how many babies have gone into the ocean!
