Turtle Trifecta Time of Year

posted: July 11, 2016, 8:09 PM

Mid July means there are three major atctivites supported by the Holden Beach Turtle Patrol: 1) mother turtles are still actively nesting; 2) Turtle Talk takes place every Wednesday evening at 7pm at the Town Hall and children's Turtle Time takes place at 4pm; and 3) what we've all been waiting for: preparing for hatching season! The first nests of the season will be "collared" (prepared for hatching with a collar made out of landscape edging) this weekend. Patrol members will "adopt" nests and make nightly checks for signs of hatching.
This is shaping up to be a busy turtle season with 42 nests as of today and a month of nesting yet to go!
