Footprints in the rain

posted: August 28, 2015, 1:37 PM

It's been raining for the past few days. Last evening the team closed a nest just as it was starting to rain and found one little hatchling. He/she made it into the water---through a couple puddles along the way---before thunder and lightening started. For safety reasons, the HBTP does not stay on the beach during thunderstorms. The baby turtles don't have "rules" like this and they may hatch out of a nest during a rain storm. If you happen to be on the beach after a storm please be on the lookout for baby turtles and turtle tracks. If you see them, please call our TURTLE EMERGENCY phone number (910-754-0766) to reach a stranding team member. When you call, please be able to tell them the house number or the nest number where you see the turtles or the tracks. Thanks for the help. Please remember that this phone number is for EMERGENCIES only, the stranding team member that answers this phone is not able to tell you where the turtles or turtles nests are located.
