Saturday update June 13

Wow! this was a busy week for the mother turtles and our turtle patrol. We're up to 14 nests! Six new nests this week and one false crawl. Over 150 people attended Turtle Talk on Wednesday. These photos are of nest #14 that was laid at the far west end of the island this morning. Because it was so far out, our program coordinator, Pat, took the cooler with the "precious cargo" (96 eggs) down the beach to the new nest on the ATV. This nest was moved because it was very close to the sand escarpment caused by tropical storm Ana and could easily be overwashed by tidal waters (photo is of the original location).
