Slow start to the season

It's been a slow year for turtle nests on our beach. As of yesterday (June 30) we've only had 11 turtle nests. Last year at this time we had 35 nests on Holden Beach. We're hearing similar reports from across the state. After record breaking numbers last season, the numbers of nests are down this year (so far). But things may be changing! Yesterday morning was busy for our volunteers. The ATV rider found 2 false crawls and 3 new nests. Two of these nests were "natural nests' and were not moved, but the 3rd was relocated.

Despite the number of nests, we're still doing Turtle Talk each Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. throughout the summer and Children's Turtle Time as started for younger turtle followers--it's 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon at Town Hall.
